Something for the weekend: Havana comes to Bethnal Green 2-4 March

Print
From 2 - 4 March, people will be invited to a Havana inspired cultural takeover at East London’s Rich Mix. There will be loads going on including a photography exhibition by the wonderful Pia! I don't know many people, let alone females, that take great 35mm photographs, but Pia is one of them so I'm super excited to see her photos. Find a taster of her work below, some blurb and a few links to the 3 day extravaganza!

"The three day long exhibition has been carefully curated by Boiler Room’s very own Thristian bPm and will feature a host of extra special guests including Charlie Dark, who will be on hand to host the weekend proceedings. The takeover will include photography, films, Afro Latin inspired music and a Cuba inspired street market. The inspiration for Havana Santiago, started early last year when photographer Pia Ebrill and Thristian boarded a flight to Cuba to capture the colour, sights, sounds, people and the music of Havana. Over 14 days, Pia and Thristian travelled 1,720 miles from Havana right across to Santiago de Cuba gathering photos, sounds and inspiration to bring back to London......"

SEVEN LINKS CHALLENGE

I was recently nominated for the 7 Links Challenge. I decided to accept the challenge just because I had no reason not to. So I have trolled through years of posts to choose links to my most beautiful, popular, controversial and helpful posts. Together with a post whose success surprised me, a post I feel didn’t get the attention it deserved and the post that I'm most proud of.

T-Shirt Party is back!!! (back catalogue for a limited time only)

For February only one of my favourite T-Shirt brands is back selling all of their 52 strong designs.

For those who haven't heard of the T-Shirt Party before; its the London based production who starting in 2010 released a new white T-shirt design per week for a whole year. With the slogan "REAL G’S WEAR WHITE T’S" the concept of the designs were current, witty and usually loyal to London. I loved them so much that I purchased four the the designs. Each t-shirt has a video to accompany it; detailing their vision, in turn transforming each tee into a piece of art work you can wear on your chest.

M.I.A. - Bad Girls

I love her. I love this.

This video was filmed in Morocco near Ouarzazate I know because me and Yewande are in it.......Well not quite but kinda.
While we were on the way back from the Sahara dessert we had to take a detour because they closed the road to film this video, our Driver Abdul was mad as hell! So we're in the car driving in road behind - squint and you'll see us.

R.I.P. Don Cornelius (September 27, 1936 – February 1, 2012)

Magic Johnson, the Soul Train Holdings chairman, said:
“Don Cornelius was a pioneer, an innovator, and a trailblazer. He was the first African-American to create, produce, host and more importantly OWN his own television show. Soul Train was a nationally syndicated show that paved the way for singers, musicians and dancers, giving them the ultimate platform to showcase their talents when no one else would. Every Saturday morning I looked forward to watching Soul Train, as did millions of other people. Soul Train taught the world how to dance! Don’s contribution to us all is immeasurable. He will truly be missed...."
